Here is a view of the bottom of the footing trench with both the horizonatal and vertical rebar
installed. The footings will be pretty substantial to handle the dead load of the insulated form
concrete walls, as well as the lateral forces developed by the soil behind the retaining walls. The
footings are intended to be 24 inches wide, but are nominally a couple of inches wider because of
rocks and collapsing sidewalls. The thickness is nominally 12 inches but also varies
significantly, especially wherever there are steps in the footings.
Here are some of the steps at a particularly steep portion of the lot. The steps are eight inches
deep and are placed such that there will be sufficient concrete thickness at the bottom of each
form. The forms are positioned vertically with the aid of a transit.
